Learning Languages is NOT Just for "Smart" People

Anyone think learning new languages is just for super smart people?

Somebody does. My mother.

Last night, I was at my mom's house just catching up and everything. I started telling her about this idea I have for a language app (really cool idea btw hopefully we get this thing going).
Then she said it.

"No adults like to learn languages."

😲💔🙉

"Well, what do you think I am Mom?"

She clarified. "Well, you're super smart. Only super smart people do that kind of stuff."

😔

(And this is why more blogs like these are needed in the world.)

I went on to explain to her that ANYONE, I repeat, ANYONE can learn a new language. I have even seen kids at my job with severe developmental disorders learning two languages. Learning may not happen as quickly as with some other people, but you can totally do it. Learning pace also depends a lot on how much time you devote to it each day/week/month, and what kind of methods you're using/if they are right for you.

So then the real truth came out.

She was not motivated to learn any new languages.
(She obviously needs to reread my post 25 Reasons to Learn Another Language.)

But then my stepdad chimed in with, "Yeah, I'd like to learn some Italian before I go over and visit Italy."

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Well there you have it Mom, and everyone else who thinks learning a new language is not for the common adult.
**shaking my head**

If you are one of the people that actually would like to learn a new language, but feel you don't have the time or energy to do so, message me! And we can discuss some ideas to help you ease it into your daily routine without even noticing. You can totally do it. And it doesn't hurt to just try it out, right?
